description

Xaar (14 March 1995 - 16 May 2021) was a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire, best known for his performances as a two-year-old in 1997.

In his juvenile season, he won four of his five races, including the Prix de Cabourg and Prix de la Salamandre in France and the Dewhurst Stakes in England. In 1998, he won the Craven Stakes on his debut...

Racehorses, and the people in their realm, turned out to be his ideal subjects. Reardon's eye found the elegance, power, and plaintive vulnerability of whatever settled before his camera, and the thoroughbred is abound with elegance, power and vulnerability.

Xaar, 'Tail', 2001, Edition 1/7 - Part of the Hermès Collection of Contemporary Photographs since November 2023.
