Oklahoma, 2005

year 2005
artist Nick Meek
gallery Crane Kalman Brighton

description

Madill, the city and county seat of Marshall in Oklahoma that they say is 'in the arms of Lake Texoma', celebrated its centenary in 2002.

When Meek photographed this street intersection in 2005, the street sign was still hanging up.

In this almost whitewashed image, Nick Meek composes a harmony of smooth, placid tones of blue and off-white. He picks out the pale blue of the sky and marries it with the now-distressed blue edges of the sidewalk and street signs. Even the fire hydrant has a touch of blue.

Over the road, three teenagers are crossing with the skateboards, heading to - or from - a meet. The azure blue t-shirt of the teenager on the left again picks out the colour theme of Meek's composition.
