Half Light 10

Half Light 10

description

In Half Light, Davies shows the inherently constructed nature of landscape.

Imbued with so many layers of symbolism, we have no choice but to impose our own interpretations on the land before us. As we are so distanced from nature itself we can no longer have a really immersive relationship with it? Now, we can only see it through fantasy, imagination, and as an idealised version of what we once knew.

This body of work in particular leans heavily on the human relationship with the land. The stronger emphasis on those still, dark waters only contrasted with verdant traces of vegetation dissects the natural space and creates an invisible barrier that separates us from the twilight forest beyond our gaze.

And so, those placid waters become the metaphor through which we see our own distance from the natural terrain.
